The council is looking for green-fingered volunteers who can help to plant new trees on Wormwood Scrubs.
3,800 trees are due to be planted between yesterday and Sunday as part of a joint initiative between the council and the Mayor of London.
The scheme is part of Boris Johnson’s plans to increase the tree canopy in London by five per cent by 2025 and the council and Mayor of London are both putting £2,000 into the initiative.
Cllr Greg Smith, cabinet member for residents services, said:
"We are committed to making our borough cleaner and greener and this is a perfect opportunity to do just that."
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said:
"Trees are an essential part of our city, helping to improve quality of life, so we are thrilled to
be working with Hammersmith and Fulham council on planting even more. This is all part of my new campaign, RE:LEAF London, to encourage individuals, businesses and community groups to get involved in tree planting. This week alone RE:LEAF is helping 20,000 more trees to take root across London, including in Wormwood Scrubs."
Tools and refreshments will be provided. Please bring suitable clothing for cold and damp conditions.
Please book your place in advance by calling 020 8753 3962 or 07748 143620.
