Commemorating D-Day in Hammersmith & Fulham

On Saturday 6^th June I attended the unveiling by H&F Mayor, Councillor Alex Karmel, of a plaque to commemorate the location of the planning of D-Day operations by General Montgomery which took place in St Pauls School on Hammersmith Road.
 
The Plaque, one of several being unveiled by the Hammersmith and Fulham Historic Buildings Group, is located on one of the pillars of the gates to the old school which is now St Pauls Open Space inbetween St Marys Church and Colet Gardens.
 
The event was jointly organised by the Historic Buildings Group and the H&F Pensioners Forum, many of whoms members were active participants in World Ward II.  Following the unveiling guests retired to St Marys Church Hall where ration books were given out and spam sandwiches served !
 
It was a happy occasion whilst somberly remember the sacrifices made by so many. The D-Day landing marked a historical moment 65 years ago and the actions of those brave soliders were created here in H&F. A part of world history for us to be proud of being part of.
